NativState Forest Carbon Portfolio

Project Overview

Inlandsis made a significant investment to partner with NativState, a leading developer of nature-based carbon projects across the United States. The initiative focuses on generating high-quality, verifiable carbon credits through improved forest management (IFM) and afforestation projects while supporting biodiversity and community resilience. Using a grassroots, landowner-centered approach, NativState contracts with small private forest owners to conserve and sustainably manage their forestlands to build long-term environmental and economic value. As of Q4 2025, NativState has already contracted with more than 600 landowners and and over 600,000 acres of forestland across several states. The investment from Inlandsis will support the continued growth of NativState’s existing IFM programs as well as the acceleration of their expansion into new market segments in both compliance and voluntary carbon markets in North America, which will help the company to deliver on the significant committed offtake volumes they have secured with leading carbon buyers. This initiative is one of the largest forest carbon aggregation initiatives of its kind in North America and is anticipated to generate carbon removal (sequestration) at the megaton scale before 2030 and to continue to scale in the following decades.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) & Co-benefits

Projects under this program deliver a range of environmental and social benefits beyond carbon sequestration. They conserve critical habitats and protect biodiversity, improve soil health and reduce erosion, and support water quality through natural filtration, groundwater recharge, and flood mitigation. Managed forests also enhance air quality and increase ecosystem resilience by reducing risks from wildfires, pests, and disease. Communities benefit through sustainable economic opportunities, recreational access, and long-term engagement in land stewardship. NativState’s innovative aggregation approach enables small and medium landowners to access carbon markets, enabling them to participate in climate solutions while generating additional income and supporting the retention of these lands within families over generations.

Project Partner

NativState LLC is a forest carbon development company partnering with small forest landowners across the southern United States to deliver access to global carbon markets. We work with landowners to improve and conserve their forests while realizing a financial return based on the creation of high-quality carbon credits sold to companies seeking to meet and exceed their carbon emission reduction goals. Using ACR’s Improved Forest Management (IFM) methodology and our forty-year carbon agreement, we work with landowners to provide a new source of income from their forests versus historical, intensive timber harvesting. Through this process NativState empowers forest owners with the ability to manage their properties sustainably and provide the co-benefits of improved water quality, improved biodiversity, and improved overall health of the forest.
