Pantheon Pocosin Ecological Reserve Restoration I
Project Overview
Pantheon Regeneration’s Pocosin Ecological Restoration I Project restores degraded pocosin peatlands in the U.S. southeast by rewetting drained areas to prevent carbon emissions, enhance sequestration, improve fresh water stores and restore biodiversity. Peatlands store twice as much carbon as all forests on earth but release emissions when degraded. The Project neighbors The Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge’s (PLWR) 110,000+ acres, extending critical habitat to support numerous species including black bears, endangered red wolves and carnivorous plants in a region many consider America’s biodiversity hotspot. This is the first of its kind peatland restoration carbon and Biodiversity project in US.

Restoring these wetlands supports species like the Red Wolf and Venus Flytrap. The Carolina Ranch project aids this restoration, tracking biodiversity metrics to potentially generate biodiversity credits.
